Lambert and Amanda Demariss Higdon. James L. Lambert was the son of Andrew Lambert and Anna Lewis and Amanda Demarriss Higdon was the daughter of John Higdon and Elizabeth Henderson. Andrew L. Lambert was the son of Capt. James Lambert of Burke County, GA. He was an officer in Lt. Col. Mathew Lyle's Militia during the Revolutionary War. On May 17, 1791, George Washington stayed at the home of Capt. James Lambert when he visited Georgia. Washington signed land grants for 1700 plus acres of land which were redeemed at Claiborne in Monroe County, Ala. When you cross the Alabama River on US 84, the Lambert plantation extended (on both sides of the road) to the Clarke County line.
