About every 5 or 10 years or so, some data marketer comes up with a directory of Carnleys in the U. S. and elsewhere, publishes it in a book and markets it under the pretense it contains genealogical information on the Carnley family. I have seen three of them, and be assured, they contain nothing of genealogical value on the Carnleys. The earliest one I recall came out about 1985, and was nothing but a list of Carnleys taken from telephone books. The second one came out in 1997, and was titled "The World Book of Carnleys". It sold for $39.38. Again, it contained nothing of genealogical value. Now there is a new one making the rounds called "The Carnley Family Yearbook". It sells for the unbelievably low price of just $50 for one, or $99 for two. But that's just until 12/07/04. After that, it goes up to $60 per copy. I haven't seen it, but you can bet it's a cookie cutter version of the earlier ones. Each person must decide for himself whether to purchase one of these books. But be forewarned. You will probably be very disappointed with what you get, because it most likely will not be what you thought you were getting.
